OK, maybe not really...but I did have to make a very evasive maneuver this morning. I was driving through an intersection where they're doing some minor construction...two lanes were narrowed down to one before the traffic light. The light was green and I sped up a little bit to get in front of the car ahead of me before the merge into one lane. I was probably doing somewhere around 55mph. There wasn't a lot of traffic, thank goodness. As I'm approaching the intersection, a Ford Ranger (Florida Pest Control truck) turns right in front of me. I went for the brakes but knew that wouldn't stop me in time...and the timing was perfect for a textbook T-bone accident. So I swerved violently into the vacant on-coming lane, while still on the brakes, feeling ABS slightly kick on. The car responded exactly how I wanted it to. I maintained control...and the on-coming lane (there was a red light...and there were NO cars coming, thank God!) gave me enough room to continue to slow down. I realize the construction workers in the median are looking at me like "WTF?"...so I whip the car around and follow the Ford Ranger. I chased him down...(not quite sure why...I was just pissed off)...still surging with adrenaline. He pulled over and apologized, he was very nice about it. I think my intention was to report him to his employer, Florida Pest Control...but he admitted his fault and was very friendly. I went on my way to class...praising the name of suspension upgrades and autocross experience. Whew, that was *really* close. I wouldn't have minded a minor accident...a J-spec fascia would be nice...but if I'd hit that Ranger as quickly as I was traveling...I wouldn't be typing this right now. Thanks for reading...drive safe.
